Sprint's Boost pumps up data from 1 GB to 2.5 GB for $35/month plan with auto-pay

Sprint's (NYSE: S) Boost Mobile prepaid brand is giving customers on its entry-level $35 plan an increase in data to 2.5 GB when they sign up for automatic payment.

Starting Feb. 3, new and existing Boost customers will be able to get unlimited voice, texting and 2.5 GB of data per month before throttling when they enroll in Auto Re-Boost. That program is Boost's automatic payment method, which allows a customer to register a credit card, debit card or bank account with Boost Mobile that will be used to automatically make a payment each month.

Normally, Boost's $35 plan comes with 1 GB of data. Boost also offers a $45 per month plan for unlimited voice, texting and 5 GB of data before throttling and a $55 per month plan for unlimited voice, texting and 10 GB of data before throttling.

Boost in particular is looking to undercut both T-Mobile US' (NYSE:TMUS) branded prepaid offerings and T-Mobile's flagship MetroPCS prepaid brand. Boost said that under T-Mobile's new "Simply Prepaid" plans, which will be available starting Jan. 25, customers will spend $50 per month for 3 GB of high-speed data, and that Boost gives 2 GB more of high-speed data for $5 per month less. Boost also pointed out that MetroPCS customers spend $40 per month for 2 GB of high-speed data and that Boost gives 500 MB more of high-speed data for $5 less.

In addition to the new $35 plan, from now through March 31, Boost customers will receive up to $100 off any new phone when they port their number to Boost from any non-Sprint carrier and sign up for a "Data Boost" plan. Also launching on Feb. 3, new customers who don't port their number from another carrier will get their first month of service free.
