LTE to remain 'a very relevant topic' for years

Mobile markets around the world are on the cusp of a major transition as carriers progress toward 5G and as proprietary network providers gain traction in the burgeoning IoT. Meanwhile, LTE penetration in the U.S. hit 78 percent last year, according to OpenSignal, and it's substantially higher in markets such as Japan and South Korea.

But while it's easy to consider LTE a bit dated as carriers prepare to test 5G technologies, rollouts of 4G networks are still occurring in many major markets. Just as importantly, standards are being created to develop flavors of LTE that are designed to address low-latency, low-power IoT use cases for which some proprietary networks are already being deployed.

FierceWireless: Europe asked CEOs, CTOs and other top executives at nine European operators whether it's time to stop talking about LTE and focus more intently on next-generation technologies and services. To read what they said, check out this informative feature
