Ericsson N. American CTO, Nandlall, leaving to be group CTO of Telstra

Vish Nandlall, CTO and head of strategy and marketing at Ericsson North America (NASDAQ:ERIC), is leaving the company to join Australian operator Telstra at its group CTO. Nandlall said his new position will begin in August.

Nandlall will replace Telstra's current CTO Hugh Bradlow, who will become Telstra's Chief Scientist, a new position in the company. A Telstra spokeswoman said that in this new position, Bradlow will increase the company's focus on future technologies.

Nandlall has been a very visible figure at Ericsson, often speaking at events and championing the company's "networked society" vision. Nandlall said he's excited to join Telstra's team and "lend my voice towards defining their future."

Nandlall is a long-time wireless executive. He is a member of the board of directors for TIA and SCTE. Before joining Ericsson he was the CTO of Extreme Networks. He also was the CTO for Nortel Carrier Networks, where he led a team of more than 90 architects and standards delegates who worked on GSM, CDMA, WiMAX and LTE.

Ericsson is a close partner to Telstra. Last year the two teamed to demonstrate LTE carrier aggregation that combined 20 MHz of bandwidth from the 1800 MHz band with 20 MHz form the 2.6 GHz band.
